James Ness joined Steffes in May 2017 as an engineering intern at our Grand Forks East location.

During his internship, he was focused on improving cycle times in the Code Shop. He participated in time studies and designed various tools to improve product efficiency.

After his summer internship, James was hired part time as a project engineer in the Code Shop while he continues course work at the University of North Dakota. He recently began his junior year as a mechanical engineering major.

“I am excited because the line is ramping up and moving to a new area of the shop,” said James. “This gives us a near blank slate to design a lean process and make it an island of excellence right from the get go.”

James said his favorite thing about working at Steffes is the opportunity to learn and advance his career.

“I have a twin brother who is a quality engineer in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin,” said James. “We are extremely completive which is great because we are always setting the bar higher for each other.”

In his spare time, he enjoys riding his motorcycle. Other hobbies include working on cars and helping out at the farm.
